If white people suck, wouldn’t you want to avoid them and go live where they don’t exist? Like, if you're not a fan of alligators or hurricanes, then you probably wouldn't want to live on the Gulf Coast, right?

I'm not a huge fan of socialists so I took it upon myself to move to a place where there are far fewer of them - seems like common sense to me.

These are the words that I posted on my classroom blog a decade ago. They are as true for me now as they were then. We miss you Carrie.

Everyone loved Carrie because Carrie loved everyone. She had nearly 2000 friends on Facebook and ALL of them were genuine friends – people whose lives she touched in a positive way. Carrie would have been a great kindergarten teacher. Her charisma and love of children would have made her a natural in the classroom. Instead, she chose to be a stay at home mom and care for her husband and two kids. As a supermom she was active in her kids’ pre-school and PTA, the family’s church, and a million other organizations around her community. She was THAT kind of amazing woman. She made everything she touched better and brighter. Carrie lost her battle with breast cancer recently. To say that I am thankful to have known her falls ridiculously short of the true gratitude that I have to have been counted amongst her friends and the loss that I feel that she is no longer with us.

Good manners are now considered 'benevolent sexism'.

I apologize to all of the women for whom I have held a door, lifted something heavy, fixed something broken, permitted to go before me because 'ladies first', protected physically or emotionally, or have gone out of my way in some fashion to assist. The arbiters of political correctness have determined that these types of gestures are evidence of 'benevolent sexism' and diminish a woman's social status because a man does something for her that she is capable of doing for herself. I was taught that stepping in like this was called being a gentleman and showing good manners. Please forgive my Neanderthal upbringing. I truly was ignorant that doing these things was socially unacceptable. I will endeavor to treat women more equally in the future.

Rather than trying to force feed curated information to students during the school day, shouldn’t we spend our time preparing their minds to self-curate the information that they are bombarded with the other 18 or so hours a day?

Nothing the government distributes is free.
Nothing the government provides is free.
Nothing the government gives you access to is free.
Nothing the government makes available is free.
Nothing the government hands out is free.

You are paying for it.

With your taxes
Through hidden regulations and fees
Through consumer price increases
Through a loss of freedom

Don't be duped into trading your votes for 'free' government crap.

When I read the words “Never Trump” I hear the words “Never America”. This has never been about the man, it has always been about this country.

Calling every student a 'scholar' is like calling every soldier a 'hero'. Those titles should be hard earned and used sparingly - not tossed around cheaply to artificially inflate self-esteem.

Indoctrination: the process of teaching a person or group to accept a set of beliefs uncritically.

Attending facilitated meetings in which the goal is to look for areas/flaws in your own thinking and beliefs that do not align with the proposed ideal so that you can change them to become a better person and fit in with the community is reeducation camp 101. We are not allowed to think critically or ask hard questions about the concepts they propose, only about our own ideas that conflict with them.

The West Coast has devolved to the point that many cities no longer have first world problems. Congratulations.

1. My parents weren't married until 6 months after I was born. I didn't learn this until I was in my 40s. It explains a lot about my family dynamic.
2. I have close relatives who are Evangelical Christians, Lutherans, Catholics, Jews, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Atheists.
3. I don't really like milk.
4. From Kindergarten through 12th grade I attended 9 schools.
5. When I was really young I talked to imaginary people and ate dirt. (Ask my cousin Rhonda)
6. I write poetry. Some of it is actually pretty good.
7. I am not naturally organized. I make up for it by working really hard.
8. I rarely have good dreams.
